Clean break order

Definition: A clean break order is a financial order that ends all financial claims between ex-spouses.

It means neither person can make a further financial claim against the other in future, including against income, pensions or inheritance. It is included within a consent order.

A clean break is only possible where there is no ongoing spousal maintenance. Where children are involved, child maintenance is handled separately and is not affected.
